Sean Taba is co-owner of Best Roofing, along with his father. Sean holds a master's degree in fiberoptics electrical engineering from UCLA. Sean has no regrets about his education, though there isn't much opportunity to use fiberoptics in roofing. "My parents worked very hard to put me through college," says Sean. "I learned how to analyze problems in a competitive environment such as the engineering used in roofing."

As co-owner of the company, Sean was instrumental in shifting Best Roofing from residential to exclusively commercial and industrial projects. Their company took a giant leap when the largest roofing company in the world, Bryant Universal, went out of business in 1993. "We inherited a lot of well-trained employees from Bryant," Sean said. The company now has 300 employees. All of their roofers are union members.

"If you're the type of employer who wishes to pay your employees well and give them good benefits, the union is worth it," Sean stated. "We pay into the fund on a weekly basis." Sean feels strongly that through the union he is assured to find qualified trained employees that are more prepared in respect to safety, greatly reducing the risk of accidents at the construction site.
